  • 70 Things I’ve Learned

    I think of myself as a lifetime learner, seeing life experiences, both good and bad, as an opportunity to learn something new.  This is especially true when it comes down to my walk with God; as there are many things that I have learned YET there is still [...]

PREVIOUS LESSON REVIEW

WHY STUDY OUR TRUE IDENTITY?

Because it all begins here! One author said “the way we live our lives is determined by our perceived identity.”  Basically, this says we cannot live beyond what we perceive ourselves as being.  Proverbs 23:7 says “as a man thinks in his heart, so he is.”  This is why Romans 12:2 tells us to be transformed by the RENEWING OF OUR MINDS.  How we perceive ourselves and our identities impacts EVERY aspect of our lives, including our esteem, relationships, and decisions.   If our relationship with God and ourselves isn’t well, it is impossible have wellness in our other relationships.

  • WHO WE ARE OR WHO WE “THINK” WE ARE WILL DETERMINE WHAT WE DO.
  • WE CANNOT LIVE BEYOND OUR BELIEVED PERCEPTION OF OURSELVES!

  • SESSION ONE – WHO I AM IN CHRIST! (March 2011)

In this lesson we learned:  I am a saint  I  I am God’s child  I  I am complete in Christ  I  I am forever free from condemnation  I  I am united with the Lord and one with Him in spirit  I  I have been chosen and appointed to bear fruit  I  I have been redeemed and forgiven of all my sins  I  I am God’s temple  I  AND MUCH MORE!

NONE of these things are based upon what I do, how I feel, what I have, what I lack or what others say about me.  Who I am is based upon my accepting and receiving the redemptive work of Christ in my life!

  • SESSION TWO – WHO I AM NOT IN CHRIST!  (April 2011)

In this lesson we learned:  I am NOT a sinner saved by grace  I  I am NOT my mistakes  I  I am NOT ever condemned by God  I  I am NOT rejected by God  I  I am NOT insignificant  I  I am NOT who others say I am  I  I am NOT my past  I  I am NOT destined to the generational curses in my family  I  & MUCH MORE!!!!

Because what we believe will impact every area of our lives, erroneous beliefs will manifest itself in our lives, relationships (with God and others), decisions, and our ability to live abundantly in Christ!

INTRO TO TODAY’S LESSON

  1. We are continuing our study on our TRUE IDENTITY IN CHRIST from the perspective of who we are NOT in Christ, using as our guide the Bible and our current read Lies Women Believe and the Truth that Sets them Free by Nancy Leigh DeMoss.  Please purchase book TODAY (if you haven’t already done so) and join us in this life-changing discovery!
  2. 2.

    Reject lies about YOU and receive God’s truth!

    Today our goal is to eradicate lies about YOU, YOUR GOD, YOUR PURPOSE and YOUR DESTINY and receive God’s Word; for Jesus says “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  John 8:32

TODAY’S LESSON

READ LIE #7 IN CHAPTER III  -  The truth is that we are so VALUABLE to the Creator of the universe that….

  • While we were yet sinners (in the lowest and most depraved state), He sent Christ Jesus to die for us (Romans 5:8).
  • He, the ALMIGHTY CREATOR of the universe, adopted us to become His children (I John 3:1, John 1:12, Ephesians 1:4) and with that comes a great inheritance (Ephesians 1:11); in which the Holy Spirit is a down payment (Ephesians 1).
  • He set us up for success by blessing us with ALL spiritual blessings (Ephesians 1:3), giving us His Word ( II Timothy 3:16), His Spirit (Ephesians 1:13, 14) and ministry gifts to help us, teach us, impart unto us and to speak His Word (Ephesians 4:11-12).

PEOPLE AND YOUR OLD IDENTITY

The Bible says YOU are a NEW creature in Christ, old things are passed away and behold ALL things have become new (II Cor 5:17).  Not only do we have to learn our NEW identity but we also have to then teach (by example) our loved ones who we are NOW.  By you allowing others to call you or identify you as you once were, you are allowing them to tie you to that old identity, spirit and mentality.  Instead, we MUST take a stand and walk in our new identity regardless of what or who may or may not like it!  Let’s see an example in  Hebrews 11:24-27

POINTS MADE IN HEBREWS 11:24-27

  1. True __________       makes you ________________        to live based upon your new ___________ ___ .
  2. True __________       motivates you to take off the old ________________        and put on the new ________________        , even if it means _____________        .
  3. True __________       changes your ________________        from _______        -focused to being _______        -focused.
  4. True __________       changes your ________________        to what true ________________        really is.
  5. True __________       changes your ________________        .
  6. True __________       causes you to walk and LIVE your new ________________        no matter what.
  7. True __________       enables you to _____________ what others cannot.
  8. Your new __________       in Christ ________________        you to gain a new ________________        .

ARE YOU TRYING TO ENTER THE PROMISED LAND WITH AN EGYPT MENTALITY?

A NEW IDENTITY REQUIRES A NEW MENTALITY!

But be doers of the Word [obey the message], and not merely listeners to it, betraying yourselves [into deception by reasoning contrary to the Truth].  –James 1:22 AMP

ACT in EVERYDAY LIFE!

Applying Christ’s Truths into Every Life

So how do we put what we’ve into practice?

Meditate on Hebrews 11:24 – 27 and ask the Holy Spirit to show you how you’ve allowed others (or yourself) to bind you to your previous identity;

Open your heart and mind to receive from the Holy Spirit;

Verify through God’s Word & Spirit a way to correct this;

“…and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” Ephesians 6:17

Execute the plan of action given to you by the Holy Spirit!

Be prepared to share this experience with your group members at our next meeting!

YOU WERE CREATED TO WALK IN VICTORY!

SO WALK IN IT!
