It’s not too late to join in on our Word Challenge! We began this 40-day mouth consecration on Sunday, November 15th and we are excited about it. You can learn more about it by reading the post titled “Perfect Synergy – Mind, Heart & Spirit“, “Dare to Declare 2009 Challenge“, and the “FAQs: The Story Behind the Challenge!“
To give you a brief summary of how to join in, all you need to do is the following:
- Get a sheet of paper and make a list of every bad, hurtful or negative things anyone, including yourself and especially the enemy, has told you.
- On the same sheet, write down a list of the changes you’d like to see in your life, promises God has made you, as well as your visions, dreams and aspirations.
- Then with your list, find out what God has to say about everything you’ve just written (you may need a Bible concordance) and write it down next to the relative item
- You can also include declarations that are based upon godly principles, such as “I am rich and prosperous”. This isn’t a bad thing, for the Bible says that God has pleasure in the prosperity of His servants. You can declare “I am free from ______ addiction”; for it is God’s will that you live in freedom.
- After you’ve made your declaration list, decide a time of day that you will commit to confessing these things you’re believing God for. Also decide how many times a day you will speak these confessions from out of your mouth. Example, I will declare my confessions twice a day: once at 8am and again at 8pm.
That’s it as far as the written side; however, there is one important thing you must do throughout the mouth consecration: you must make a conscious effort in not speaking anything negative during this team, especially as it pertains to the items you are declaring each day. Example: if I am declaring I am healed in Jesus Name, I cannot later on say something like, “That makes me sick”. Though we know this is a figuratively done, the Bible says you have what you says—not what you meant to say.
A good idea is for you to keep a journal during this time. This will help you to keep a track of what you’re saying as well as track your feelings, prayers and testimonies during your consecration. Please do know that the enemy WILL try to discourage you through doubt, distractions and countless “what if” scenarios. He will try to convince you that what you’re doing is stupid and doesn’t work, or perhaps get you to believe that God will not hear you because of your sins and shortcomings. If you’ve sinned, ask God for forgiveness and then receive His forgiveness; for He is faithful and just to forgive our sins when we confess them (1 John 1:9).
When the devil comes against you to dissuade you, what you need to do is first rebuke him (speaking out of your mouth), hit him with the Word of God (just as Jesus did in Luke 4 – this should also be from out of your mouth), speak your declaration and keep moving forward! If you have to do this one time or 30 times in a day, then do so. Know that the enemy can NEVER prevail against God and His Word!
I hope this gives you a little more insight about the Challenge. Remember that death and life are in the power of YOUR tongue and you will have whatever you say! (Proverbs 18:21). King David says that our tongue is a pen of a ready writer, so with that said, write yourself an anointed, prosperous and blessed future; which is what God wants you to have (Jeremiah 29:11).
